There are many ways to borrow items:

Self-Service Kiosks

The handy self-service kiosks can be used with your membership card, or manually with your membership number and PIN. Place your items together on the shelf (no need to do them one by one) and let the Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) do the rest. You’ll see all the titles pop up on the screen, and once they’re all green with a tick, you can remove them and finish your transaction. Just make sure you the number of books you have matches the number issued on the screen - sometimes the thin books or magazines need a wiggle. The machine can print or email you a receipt if you want one which will tell you the return dates for your items.

See us at the desk

We still love to see you, so feel free to come to the desk to borrow your items and we can help you during staffed hours. Community Hub Libraries are busy places, so please bear with us as you may be required to wait a little bit.

We are a fines free service, we won’t penalise you if your items are returned late. But please be respectful of loan periods as someone might have a hold on your item and be waiting for you to return it.

If you have an item out longer than 5 weeks, we will assume you have lost it. Lost items will be charged at the purchase price.

Sometimes that initial loan period just isn’t quite long enough. Most items you can renew up to two times (providing no one has a hold on your item) before you really should bring it back. Kits cannot be renewed. If you’ve lost your receipt you can use the tools below to check when your items are due back.

Sometimes you know exactly what you want and would prefer to just walk in and grab it without having to go and find it, or you’d like to ensure you get it as soon as possible – especially if it’s a popular title. You can search for the item in our catalogue. The search return will let you know what format the item is in whether this be physical or digital and whether it’s available in the Library now, if it’s currently checked out or available soon. If it’s available and you’d like us to have it ready for your, or if it’s not available and you want to ensure you are able to borrow the item next in the list, you can place a hold just by logging in to your account.

When you place a hold, we will find it for you (if it’s available now, or when it’s returned) and pop it on the holds shelf for you to pick up (within 7-days of notification that your hold is ready to pick up).

There are many ways you can manage your borrowing:

  • Through your online account with your membership number and pin - search, place holds, check due dates and renew items
  • In the library on a self-check machine - renew items
  • Through the Online Public Access Catalogue (OPAC) - search
  • Through the library app available on Google Play or Apple Store on any device that supports apps - search, place holds, check due dates, renew items and manage children’s items
  • We are also here to help you, either see us in person, give us a call or send us an email during staffed hours

It couldn’t be easier to return items to the library. In the centre of the facility there is a return shelf you can access during staffed hours (or Open Plus hours). Or you can pop them in the afterhours return slot at the rear of the building near the staff carpark.

Return Shelf

The return shelf is a smart shelf – our handy RFID tags inside the books make it so your items are instantly returned once they are put on the shelf. Just make sure the titles pop up on the screen to the right of the shelf as this confirms they have been returned. If any items don’t pop up on the screen, please bring these to the front desk so we can return it for you.

Items borrowed from satellite libraries can either be returned to the location you got it from or returned as above.
