Summer Battle 2024
On the 26th of January in Feilding, we hosted the Summer Battle, featuring the best trick competition at the Feilding skatepark and biggest splash competition, at the Makino Aquatic Centre.
This exciting event brought together youth and the young at heart from the Manawatū region and beyond, all for free. Here are the highlights from the day:
- The Best Trick skateboarding competition was organised by OnBoard Skate School and hosted by local skateboarder Corry Kotuhi from Feilding. Judges Craig McLay and Craig Henderson from Palmerston North assessed competitors' skills in both the street area and bowl, focusing on trick difficulty and technicality.
- Participants were evaluated on their performance in the street area, with higher scores given for ledge and kicker tricks. In the bowl, skateboarders were judged on tricks like Airs and Lip Tricks in the deep end (7ft).
- Prizes included Skateboard decks, Grip Tape, Wheels, Bearings, T-Shirts, and Socks. Various spot prizes and free swim passes were also distributed during the event.
- The afternoon featured the Biggest Splash competition for participants aged 13 and above, with prizes awarded for the most impressive splashes and additional spot prizes given out to participants.
- Additionally, there was a DJ spinning fantastic tunes to energize everyone, and we kept the sausage sizzles going.
Summer Battle 2024 was proudly brought to you by Manawatū Community Hub Libraries, Onboard Skate School, Makino Aquatic Centre, Manawatū District Council and Manawatu Youth Council.
