All the pieces come together

Generous donations of Lego have enriched the collection for Manawatū Community Hub Libraries. If you’ve ever played with Lego, you know the joy of building and creating. This beloved classic continues to captivate people of all ages, making it a timeless staple in community spaces.

Among the contributions, Nigel Doyle from the Wellington Lego® User Group (Well-LUG) donated a significant collection of classic Lego and Mini Figures he received as prizes. His wife, Janet Doyle, added to the collection by sharing cherished childhood Duplo Lego from their daughter. Janet was thrilled to learn about the joy these pieces brought to children in the community.  Marie Willis, Programmes Leader at the Community Hub, has been delighted by the community's enthusiastic response to calls for quality Lego donations. She notes, “It acts as a reminder of how a simple toy can unite people and create lasting memories.”

A generous grant from Tū Manawa Active Aotearoa has also been awarded to Manawatū Community Hub Libraries to support tamariki and rangatahi during Play Week Aotearoa 2024, specifically for the purchase of Lego.

The weekly children’s Lego club was particularly excited about unboxing this new collection of Lego, which encourages imaginative play. This creative club allows kids to build freely, fostering development through play. Regan Gray, the Library Hub Specialist leading the club, excitedly states, "Children are having a great time" while developing vital skills such as sharing, socialising, creative play, and resilience. He appreciates their creations and chooses to showcase them in a glass cabinet at the community hub instead of taking them apart immediately, allowing everyone to enjoy their stories.

The library catalogue also boasts a vast collection of books dedicated to the subject of Lego, showcasing the diverse interests surrounding this iconic toy. The Manawatū Community Hub Libraries at Te Āhuru Mōwai, is truly the perfect place where all the pieces come together seamlessly, promoting creativity, learning, and community connection.
