Celebrate NZ Music Month With Us
As the rhythms of autumn settle over the Manawatū, the sound of Aotearoa turns up the volume. This May, Manawatū Community Hub Libraries (MCHL) invites the community to celebrate NZ Music Month with the sounds of local talent with live performances, and musical experiences.
Throughout the month, a curated soundtrack of New Zealand music will be playing in the Hub, alongside a themed display highlighting NZ music artists. Explore music hands-on by loaning for free, musical instruments including guitars, ukuleles, and keyboards through MCHL’s The Library of Things. A series of free lunchtime performances will take place in Te Āhuru Mōwai, featuring local musicians and school groups. Audiences can expect a diverse range of acts, from string ensembles and acoustic guitar to contemporary duos and student performers.
The celebration continues with a community event in partnership with Feilding District Promotion. TheLive Mini Concert: Feel the Sound, Taste the Town will be held on Friday 15 May, from 4:30pm to 7:30pm at Manchester Square. This lively evening will feature performances from local bands including Quite Frankly, The Fire Flys, Ferral, and Midnight Switch, alongside MC and DJ sets. Attendees can enjoy food trucks, local fundraising stalls, and a welcoming community atmosphere.
As part of the concert evening, MCHL will bring its “Library Without Walls” initiative to the event, offering library membership sign-ups, cloud-based checkouts, and activities. This provides a great opportunity for the community to engage with library services in a fun, accessible setting, while highlighting the range of resources and services available.
NZ Music Month is a nationwide celebration dedicated to supporting local artists and strengthening connections through music. This programme reflects MCHL’s commitment to making music accessible, celebrating creativity, and developing community engagement.
The community is invited to be part of the celebration whether you pop into Te Āhuru Mōwai or gather at Manchester Square, come and soak up the sounds.
