Comfort Delivered to Your Door

As the season changes and winter settles in, the heater gets switched on, the mornings feel colder, and the days grow shorter leaving the house becomes just that little bit harder and for some, an impossibility.

For many in our community, winter also brings something special: a bag full of stories, puzzles, magazines, and friendly connection delivered right to their door by local volunteers.

Manawatū Community Hub Libraries (MCHL) long-standing HomeLink service is an important lifeline for people who are unable to visit the library in person due to age, mobility challenges, disability, illness, surgery, or simply the difficulties winter weather can bring.

Every fortnight, carefully selected books, DVDs, audiobooks, magazines, and puzzles arrive at recipients’ homes. For some, it is a quick doorstep drop-off. For others, it is also an opportunity for a friendly chat and meaningful social connection.

This free Homelink service is personalised to each reader’s interests and needs. Feilding residents can receive deliveries every two weeks, while alternative arrangements can be made for rural residents.

This winter, MCHL is encouraging more people to take advantage of the service and is also seeking volunteers willing to help deliver items and brighten someone’s day.

“Homelink is about more than books,” says Robyn Ballard, Community Hub Libraries Manager. “It’s about connection, comfort, and making sure everyone in our community can continue enjoying the library’s resources, no matter their circumstances.”

Signing up for Homelink is free and easy. Simply complete the online registration form. MCHL staff will make contact within three working days to discuss preferences and arrangements. Anyone who is not already an MCHL member can also join MCHL online for free.

This winter, a warm story and a friendly smile might be closer than you think.
