Save a Life with St John

What if a friendly chat could change or even save a person’s life? That’s the kind of difference Hato Hone St John is making through its ongoing community engagement sessions with Manawatū Community Hub Libraries (MCHL) led by Pauline Cooper, Community Engagement Coordinator for Hato Hone St John.

These free sessions give the public the chance to learn vital, hands-on skills and discover the many ways St John supports the community. Learn CPR, find out about the Health Shuttle service that provides transport to medical appointments, and learn about the Friendship Phone Service (Caring Caller), a simple way to reduce loneliness and build friendships. Pauline also shares information about the new ICE (In Case of Emergency) booklet, a practical resource designed to help first responders access essential medical details when every second counts.

The next sessions will be held on Thursday 24 October and Thursday 5 December from 10:00am to 12:00pm at Te Āhuru Mōwai. Everyone is welcome to drop in ask questions and enter the draw to win a first aid kit.

“These sessions are about helping people feel confident, connected, and prepared,” says Pauline. “We are here to share knowledge, answer questions, and show how St John can support everyday wellbeing in our community.”

To compliment the sessions, the Manawatū Community Hub Libraries catalogue features a wide range of books and resources on health, ageing, and wellbeing. Perfect for anyone wanting to keep learning beyond these sessions.
