Open Plus extended hours here to stay

More access, greater flexibility and smarter use of resources. That's the outcome of a successful extended hours of the Open Plus trial at Manawatū Community Hub Libraries (MCHL).

The Open Plus system allows registered library members to access the library outside of normal staffed hours, giving the community greater flexibility to use the space, browse collections and access library resources at times that suit them.

Following a successful trial, MCHL has confirmed that Open Plus will continue with it’s extended house starting at 6am and concluding at 11pm, 7 days a week.

GM Community Lyn Daly says the success of Open Plus demonstrates how innovative thinking and digital technology can work together to deliver better services while making the most of existing resources.

"Open Plus is a great example of how we can be responsive to how people want to use our services and finding practical ways to deliver more for our ratepayers."

The initiative has allowed MCHL to extend access without requiring the same level of additional staffing that would be needed under a traditional operating model, creating efficiencies while maintaining the library's existing staffed services.

With extended Open Plus hours now a permanent feature, library members can continue to enjoy the flexibility of extended access alongside the full range of programmes, services and support available during staffed hours.
